There will be a temporary road closure eastbound on Merrick Road from the junction with South Road bridge as changes are made to support a new cycle hub.

Ealing Council Leader Peter Mason announced on Twitter that Merrick Road in Southall would be closed on Thursday 6th April as improvements are made to the road to help put a cycle hub in the area, which is currently going through planning.

This new cycle hub in the area will create extra space for bikes to be stored in Southall, making life easier for cyclists in the borough.

Ealing Council have committed to investing £10 million into walking and cycling and this is part of the funding that will help more environmentally friendly forms of transport easier in the borough.

Councillor Deirdre Costigan, deputy leader and cabinet member for climate action, said in September 2021: "We want to support everyone to use their bike as much as possible which is why we are making it easier for residents to cycle.

"It is vital that wherever possible, people are choosing active travel and public transport for shorter journeys.

"By making these small but significant changes we can tackle the climate crisis, improve local air quality and help achieve our aim of reaching 'net zero' for carbon emissions in the borough by 2030."
