New Years week saw a sharp increase of new coronavirus cases

EALING has seen an increase of over 32% of new cases in the latest COVID-19 figures that were released.

This comes as Sadiq Khan declared a major incident in London on Friday, due to the spread of the virus.

In the week of December 28 to January 3, Ealing saw 3,323 new positive cases, compared to 2,508 the week before.

That figure represents an increase of 32.5%, with 815 more new cases.

That means there was also an increase in the number of new cases per 100,000 residents, with 972.2, compared to 733.8 the week before.

Those figures continue to be lower than the average across London, but higher than the average across England.

London as a whole had 91,602 new cases during the week of December 28 to January 3, which represents 1,022.1 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

England saw 348,455 new cases during the same week, correlating to 619.1 cases per 100,000 people.
