"IT'S like Airbnb but for cars, it's great."

That's how the Sealey brothers from Acton describe Turo, the world's largest car sharing marketplace.

Turo expanded to the UK in 2018 and a year later, Greg and Christopher Sealey decided to join the platform and make their car available to rent.

Similarly to Airbnb, people can list their cars on Turo's website and customers can choose to rent them out for a certain number of days.

The two brothers, who have lived in Acton since they were kids were looking to buy a car in the summer of 2019 and decided to buy one that they could also use on Turo.

Greg told Nub News: "A car loses its value the minute you buy it, it's not like property, so we thought that if we can buy a car at a good price and then rent it out for a year or so and sell it for a similar price, then that's good business."

The brothers found that their profile was getting lots of traction and managed to expand their fleet to four cars and have set up their own business – Sealey Car Rentals .

"Before COVID we would have at least one or two cars rented out every day for people coming into London from abroad or other parts of the UK, or from Londoners who don't have their own car and wanted to rent one out for a weekend getaway."

"There is a real market for it, especially because Acton is located close enough to central London that it's easy for those without a car to get to us and rent one," Greg added.

Similarly to most businesses, the coronavirus pandemic has negatively impacted Sealey Car Rentals, but Greg is happy to see that although rentals have dropped, they haven't completely disappeared.

"We still get people that need a car for work and because of all the positive reviews we've got, we stand out, reviews are unbelievably important," he said.
