Ealing locals urged to donate chocolate eggs and fill unit the size of a red phone box for The Felix Project.

Access Self Storage launches its annual Easter Egg campaign, with a completely empty storage unit.

The aim is that the appeal will see locals donate eggs to completely fill the empty 2.5 metres squared storage unit – similar in size to an old fashioned red phone box - in aid of The Felix Project and FareShare.

To fill the container, which is approximately nine ft high and three ft wide, the team will need to collect around 200 boxed supermarket Easter Eggs.

Access Self Storage is working with The Felix Project, a food redistribution charity fighting food waste and hunger in London.

Recent research found 1.5 million adults in London alone are struggling to afford to eat every day and 300,000 children are at risk of missing their next meal.

Whilst the Access store teams realise that an Easter Egg isn't going to solve the wider issue, the teams across the UK unanimously voted to collect for a food charity this year.

Eggs outside of London will be donated to FareShare, the national food redistribution charity.

Thousands of Easter Eggs have been donated by stores local communities and customers since the collections began in 2011, and in 2024, 34 Access Self Storage stores located around the UK will be collecting for The Felix Project and FareShare, including its Ealing branch in Manor Road.

Access Self Storage say that if every store fills its 2.5 metres squared storage unit container this Easter, which is almost 8,000 Easter Eggs, all would be distributed to those in need locally and across the UK.

Jan Albert Fourie, General Manager of Operations at Access Self Storage commented: "It's so important for our store teams to work closely with their local communities and to be able to help those that will really benefit from this collection.

"Our aim is to fill our storage units over and over whilst this campaign remains open and if we can collect 8,000 Easter Eggs this year we know the teams and our charity partner, The Felix Project and FareShare will be so grateful.

"If every customer donates just one Easter Egg throughout this campaign we can smash our target and make a huge difference."

Staff at Access Self Storage have already begun collecting eggs and donations can be made at the store between 1 March to 25 March, ahead of the charity collection and distribution in time for Easter.

Richard Smith, Head of Food Supply at The Felix Project said: "We are delighted to be working with Access Self Storage and receiving Easter Eggs.

"We know that many families struggle to afford to feed their families and at times like Easter parents often feel more pressure to spend money they do not have on luxuries like chocolate eggs.

"Being able to get them from their local food banks or other support service is a huge help and means they do not have to worry about their children going without."
