Conservation officer role 'vital' as Ealing Council seek applicants
Ealing Council are hiring for a conservation officer after cutting it back in 2018, a role Liberal Democrat Councillor Jon Ball feels is "vital".
In a job listing posted on 11 July, the conservation officer will join the council's Urban Design team.
Ealing Council have told Nub News: "The Urban Design service will provide advice on pre-applications and applications, help develop policy, design codes, conservation area appraisals and supplementary planning guidance, masterplans and regeneration frameworks.
"In addition, the service will work across the council to ensure council-led projects have good urban design and support the creation of public spaces embedded from conception to delivery.
The role will see the conservation officer provide support for all relevant applications where required, which Lib Dem Cllr Jon Ball believes is "vital" in Ealing.
"Liberal Democrats said that a conservation officer is vital for the Council to preserve the character and heritage of Ealing.
"The recruitment of a new conservation officer is an embarrassment to Ealing Labour who cut such a role several years ago in a false cost saving exercise.
"It shows their lack of capability at long term planning," says the opposition spokesperson on housing and development.
Cllr Ball adds: "This is a classic U-turn by Ealing Labour who keep "flip flopping" on policy, making excuses to blame the previous Labour administration or the now former Conservative government.
"Liberal Democrats want the Council to focus more attention on preserving the rich heritage and history of our borough."
Ealing Council say the conservation officer will ensure "increased emphasis on good urban design and creating public spaces in the development of the borough."
The role pays between £52,116 and £54,129 per year and applications close on 8 August. To apply and find out more, click here.
