A CENTRAL line strike due to take place tonight and tomorrow has been suspended.

The RMT union had previously called for industrial action following the sacking of tube driver and union rep, Gary Carney.

Carney was accused of avoiding a drug and alcohol test, which the RMT denies.

Instead, they claim that the manager who referred Carney for a disciplinary investigation made a specific issue with his trade union activism.

The proposed strike which was meant to take place from 9pm tonight until 9pm tomorrow (May 6), and affect election day, has now been suspended.

The union instead has told its members to book shifts as normal.

The RMT also held talks over Carney's case with Tube managing director Andy Lord yesterday (May 4).

It is also preparing a ballot of all London Underground train operators to focus on 'getting a clear mandate from the membership'.
