BARCLAYS in Acton will be closing down for good next month, the bank has announced.

The branch, which is located on Acton High Street, will be closing its doors for the final time on Friday, June 4.

The company has planned to shut 540 branches since 2015, with West Ealing losing its branch last August.

According to Barclays, only 21 regular customers used this branch exclusively for their banking.

A Barclays spokesperson said: "The decision to close a branch is never an easy one.

"However, customers are increasingly using alternatives to branches to do their banking.

"As a result, we are seeing a sustained fall in branch visits across the UK.

"This is reflected at the Acton branch where there has been an 18% reduction in counter transactions in the two years to March 2020.

"In addition, more than nine out of 10 (91%) of our customers at the branch are also using different ways to bank.

"We will work with our customers and provide alternative options to ensure they can continue to manage their money and receive financial expertise when required."

Following this closure, the nearest Barclays branch for Acton residents is either in Ealing Broadway or in Chiswick.

This is the latest bank closure which will leave Acton with even fewer cash machines, with the only one in the immediate local vicinity now being inside Morrisons.
