LIBERAL democrat candidates in the pending local elections in Ealing have reminded voters that if they wish to obtain a postal vote they will need to apply quickly.

Thursday, May 6, will bring a number of ballots for Ealing residents.

They will get the chance to vote for the Mayor of London, the 25 members of the London Assembly and a London Assembly member for the Ealing and Hillingdon constituency.

The full list of candidates to be the next Mayor of London can be found via this link.

Candidates standing in the election for London Assembly constituency member for Ealing and Hillingdon are:

  • Anthony Michael Goodwin (Reform UK, London Deserves Better)
  • Hussain Shah Khan (Liberal Democrats)
  • Onkar Singh Sahota (Labour)
  • Gregory James Stafford (Conservative)
  • Marijn Cecile Van de Geer (Green Party)

A full list of candidates for the local by-elections taking place in Ealing Broadway ward, Hanger Hill ward and Hobbayne ward for places on Ealing Council will be available after nominations close at 4pm on Thursday, April 8.

There is one place available in each ward.

Among those who have already declared their candidacy is Liberal Democrat, Athena Zissimos, who will be standing in Hanger Hill where she has lived for 18 years.

Her election manifesto says she will find solutions for her constituents' concerns be it thundering lorries, fly tipping or the lack of a police presence.

In addition, she pledges to battle bureaucracy within Ealing Council.

Ms Zissimos, together with her party colleagues, has urged those residents who do not wish to vote in person on May 6 to either arrange a proxy vote or a postal vote.

You can obtain details of how to obtain your vote via this link.

Ms Zissimos is hoping that there is a high turnout for all three elections and has stressed the importance of what councils, the Assembly and the mayor's office do for London residents – and how their decisions impact on daily life.

She says: "The people you vote for in this election are responsible for many aspects of your everyday life – from the underground, local bus services, and policing, to green spaces, air quality and Trafalgar Square."

Ms Zissimos is an advocate for change and would particularly like to see her Liberal Democrat colleague, Luisa Porritt, take the reins of the Mayor's office from incumbent Labour candidate, Sadiq Khan.

The former Tooting MP, who served that constituency for 11 years, has been mayor since 2016.

Ms Zissimos told Nub news: "Luisa visited our area only a few months ago.

"She wants to ensure that if Mayor she would bang the heads of Ealing and Hounslow Councils so that our high streets would be regenerated as residents from both areas use Chiswick High Street.

"Another key aim of Luisa's is policing.

"She will set up a London Youth Service, restore in the police force and bring back community policing that works."

Looking at the list for the GLA, Ms Zissimos believes the Lib Dems' candidate Caroline Pidgeon will do an outstanding job for the area, while she is backing Liberal Democrat candidate Hussain Khan to be the new London Assembly constituency member for Ealing and Hillingdon.

The Lib Dems' other by-election candidates are Chris Wyatt and Alastair Mitton who also live locally.
