Acton Market Community Fun Day returns next week, filled with activities, food and a special celebrity guest.
Held by Action West London at Acton Market in collaboration with A Mother's Teardrops, St Mary's Church Acton and Best Friend Promotions, the event (Saturday, 24 August, 11am to 9pm) aims to unite the Acton community through the message of 'Community first: We are all in this together.'
A Mother's Teardrops was set up by Vanessa Hyman in memory of her son Anton Hyman who was murdered in 2004 on Mothers day.
Vanessa, who has been campaigning for 20 years to get her late son justice, says: "There is no community without unity. If I can change one young person's mind that violence is not the answer, it will all be worth it."
Organisers say that aside from putting on a fun day for families to enjoy in Acton, the community day is about 'raising anti-violence awareness, by highlighting the dangers in west London to young people of joining gangs, the escalation of crime, violent and anti-social behaviour.'
The Acton Market Community Fun Day will feature music from DJs, face painting, food from Acton street traders and TV celebrity Sandra from Googlebox.
Acton Market Community Fun Day:
- Live DJs: SGS, Charisma and Back to Basics
- Kids activities: Face painting and bouncy castle
- Hot food: Lucy's Tropical Kitchen and all the great Acton Market Food Traders
- Licensed bar: serving alcoholic drinks including Vanessa's secret recipe rum punch.
- TV Celebrity: Sandra from Gogglebox
- Ealing Clothes Repair café and others from the Reduce and Recycle hub
- Talent on the Mount: Showcasing local talent
Additionally, Action West London are looking for talented people to take a slot on its stage. To apply participants must submit their name by 20 August to [email protected]
Action West London add: "The Acton Market Community Fun Day will include inspirational and thought-provoking speeches on how families and friends can change the mindset of young peoples disregard for the gift of life and highlight how precious the gift life is.
"Talks will also highlight important messages about personal safety and safer communities. This raises awareness of the fact that violence can never be the solution."
Reverend Joseph from St Mary's Church, Acton will have the church open to visitors with an exhibition to look at and support the event with entertainment outside the church.
Action West London and its partners hosted a similar community event in 2023 and 2021. To find out more about Acton Market Community Fun Day, click here.
