ACTON Depot has opened its doors to the public this weekend in a rare opportunity to see the London Transport Museum's hidden stock in Ealing.

The rare trainspotting event reveals a treasure trove of over 320,000 objects from the working museum store.

The depot has opened-up to the public twice previously this year, however with a more family focus.

This weekend's event is for everyone and has seen school trips, families and individuals roll up for a trip to the warehouse, situated around the corner from Acton Station.

It's just the ticket if you're an urban transport enthusiast, but equally if you want to learn something niche and new about our city's transport history.

Unfortunately, it seems the event is so popular that it has now sold out online!

However, here are some personal highlights from the event:

The Chocolate Express, operated by the Chocolate Express Omnibus Company between 1924 and 1934, which highlights how not all buses were red.

It was one of many buses at the time operated by smaller independent bus companies, known as 'pirates'.

Metropolitan Railway milk van No.3 which carried large churns of milk, and featured additional suspension to prevent the milk from turning into butter.

This wooden railway van, which ran on the Metropolitan Railway from 1896 to 1936, was designed to carry milk directly from dairy farms in Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire into London, attached to fast passenger trains.

An A1 class 'Diddler' trolleybus', which turned 90 this year.

This electric-powered trolleybus from 1931 was the first in London, and was introduced by the London United Tramsways, running up until 1948.

Friendly and enthusiastic staff and volunteers are on hand to share their knowledge and passion for urban transport.
