Ealing general election 2024 results: Southall Nico Omilana confirms NDL will run again

Ealing Southall's Nico Omilana says voters can expect the NDL (Nico Defence League) to run again in the next general election as the group will "not stop."

Ealing Southall results:

  • Workers Party - Darshan Singh Azad: 4,237
  • Independent - Sangeet Kaur Bhail: 557
  • Independent - Joe Bhangu: 319
  • Conservatives - Georgie Callé: 7,207
  • Reform UK - Steve Chilcott: 2,585
  • Labour Party - Deidre Costigan: 23,000 (Elected)
  • Independent - Pedro Da Conceicao: 213
  • Liberal Democrat - Tariq Mahmood: 2,832
  • Independent - Niko Omilana: 740
  • Green Party - Neil Stephen Reynolds: 4,356
  • Independent - Jaginder Singh: 295
  • Rejoin EU - Peter Ward: 475

Independent candidate, Nico Omilana, was one of 10 other Nico's running across the country.

As well as Ealing Southall, Nico Omilana was listed in ballot papers in Leeds East, Leeds South, Coventry South, Greenwich and Woolwich, North West Essex, Bermondsey and Old Southwark, Birmingham Perry Barr, Dundee Central, Stockton West and Richmond and Northallerton.

The real Nico Omilana ran in the former Conservative Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak's constituency with the YouTuber gaining only 160 votes in comparison to the Sunak's 23,059.

After the defeat to Deidre Costigan, the "fake" Nico Omilana spoke to Nub News on his reaction to gaining over 700 votes: "It's incredible...I beat five people."

He added: "The NDL is going to be strong, we are going to take over the political scene with young people.

"I appreciate all of them (voters), I appreciate the support and you can tell they want serious change in this constituency.

When asked if the NDL will run again in the next general election, Omilana said: "Yes, the NDL does not stop."

In her speech, Rupa Huq told the audience: "It's been a huge honour and privilege to be serving with my home community, where I was raised, where I went to school for these last nine years.

"It has been a bit of a sort of been a sweet thing because it's been eternally frustrating to be sort of in the impotence of opposition.

"So we vote in the House of Commons night after night and we lose every single time. What a night where now we're in a historic moment where it looks like we're heading for a landslide Labour government.

"The people of Ealing Central & Acton like the nation at large voted for change from a change Labour Party to change the direction that this country is going in after 14 prickling years of austerity."

Reacting to coming second in the voting for Ealing Central & Acton, Alastair Mitton told Nub News: "I'm extremely proud of the campaign that my team ran.

"We ran a very positive campaign and we ran all of the other candidates, obviously, barring Rupa, extremely close but you know, the tide tonight is Labour's."

Mitton added: "We carry on going the next election will be in 2026 when the council elections will come up and I have every confidence that we will do extremely well then."

  • Independent - Helmi Alharahsheh: 499
  • Social Democratic Party - Les Beaumont: 240
  • Workers Party - Sam Habeeb: 3,139
  • Reform UK - Leon Harris: 3,948
  • Conservatives - Maria Khan: 8,144
  • Green Party - Natalia Kubica: 4,056
  • Labour Party - James Murray: 20,663 (Elected)

  • Ealing Central & Acton - 61.24%
  • Ealing Southall - 59.79% ( 47,033)
  • Ealing North - 58.06% (43,438)
