WEST Ealing and Southall station are to get a new permanent cycle hub installed to provide long-term and improved cycle parking in and around the station.

The West Ealing cycle hub will feature around 60 permanent spaces for cycle parking and is due for completion in early 2022.

When completed, the hub will also be monitored via CCTV for security and sheltered from the weather.

The council will be installing 25 temporary cycle stands for bikes in the next two weeks for commuters to use until the hub is complete.

In Southall station, which recently experienced a revamp, a similar hub is planned from summer 2022.

The council said there will soon be temporary bike stands installed there in the meantime.

Councillor Deirdre Costigan, deputy leader and cabinet member for climate action said: "It is vital that wherever possible, people are choosing active travel and public transport for shorter journeys.

"By making these small but significant changes we can tackle the climate crisis, improve local air quality and help achieve our aim of reaching 'net zero' for carbon emissions in the borough by 2030."
