CAMPAIGNERS have launched a petition after access was denied to Gunnersbury Park Bowls Club to its bowling green.

The Gunnersbury Park Community Interest Company (CIC) is being asked to reconsider its decision.

Urgent maintenance work needs to be carried out on the bowling green and there are fears it will deteriorate beyond repair.

The petition - which has over 500 signatures so far - is asking all local councillors to persuade the CIC to allow the Bowls Club access to the bowls green.

CIC is responsible for the management of Gunnersbury Park on behalf of owners Ealing and Hounslow Councils.

A planning application was refused last April for the conversion of the bowls clubhouse to a cafe/restaurant.

Another planning application in January was deferred by Hounslow Council planning chiefs to give them more time to consider the plan.

The proposal was to convert the bowls green into a mini-golfing facility – bringing an end to the game of bowls which has been played on the site for 90 years.

The bowling club says it has no objection to a mini-golf course but that this must not be at the expense of losing the bowling green.

Deadline to sign is March 19 - you can sign the petition HERE.
