Gunnersbury Park has been rewarded in two prestigious gardening awards.

CIC Gunnersbury Estate was delighted to announce the parks achievement in being awarded Gold by London in Bloom and receiving a Green Flag Award this year.

The Estate attributed their success to the dedicated hard work of the gardening team and park volunteers over the last year, even during the 'very difficult circumstances' due to Covid.

Quotes such as 'lifeline', 'crucial to our happiness during lockdown' and 'vital to mental wellbeing' were amongst the feedback they had received from visitors, stating how Gunnersbury Park has played a vital role in the local community during Covid.

The Estate said it was 'wonderful that the park and the team have been recognised by these two awarding bodies'.

Park Manager at Gunnersbury, Chris Ellis said that Gunnersbury Park first entered London in Bloom in 2020 and were awarded High Silver Gilt.

Chris said: "We are delighted to have exceeded this and achieved a Gold for 2021.

"It's a real credit to the Park & Garden team and volunteers for all their hard work and dedication.

"Next year we will be entering even more London in Bloom categories in the hope of bagging more medals !

"As if this news wasn't good enough the park has also been awarded this year's Green Flag which we will be proudly flying from our flag pole.

"I'd also like to thank all the public support we have had over the last couple of years, especially during the pandemic."

The Green Flag Award scheme recognises and rewards well managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark standard for the management of recreational outdoor spaces across the United Kingdom and around the world.

The London in Bloom awards recognise entrant's efforts in improving their local environment.

Entrants are assessed to a consistent standard with each entry receiving an award that recognises the standard reached.

There are five awards ranging from the Certificate of Commendation Fair to Gold, which is classed as 'outstanding', with a result of 85% and above, and an overall point score of 170-200.

Gunnersbury Park have a series of events taking place this half-term, including exhibitions, music and pumpkin carving.
