A much-loved Indian restaurant in Ealing has been recognised for its above-and-beyond customer service and five star reviews.

Well-known Indian restaurant Haweli was given the Best Customer's Choice Award at the CurryLife Awards on Sunday.

Based on customer nominations, the national prize recognised the Ealing restaurant as the best across the nation for customer satisfaction.

Manik Miah, owner of Haweli since last January, said he was 'privileged' to pick up the award on the night.

He told Nub News: "This award is like a million-pound lottery win as we work hard to make customers happy, if you look up the reviews they talk for themselves about how far we go.

"Me and my team are really happy, it was a great experience."

Serving Ealing since 1985, Haweli has a loyal following in the area and a strong customer base, however Manik said the pandemic greatly affected them.

He said: "We suffered a lot when we had to close our doors, and takeaway is not always the answer, we survived on that, but because of the hefty commission that's taken by the takeaway groups, there's not much left."

Manik said the business also suffered a blow after the news of the Indian coronavirus variant this summer, which led to many people cancelling their reservations.

Despite the knocks, the curry house was also awarded last December for their work helping NHS staff workers during the coronavirus pandemic and serving food at the Salvation Army in Ealing.

"You need to look at the bigger picture, those people may not have had a hot meal during the pandemic. Yes, we were struggling financial but my life wasn't relying on one meal", added Manik.

He also praised his loyal staff for the award, with chefs from Nepal, India and Bangladesh, one who has worked at the restaurant for 30 years, a waiter for almost 27 years, and others for over 10 years.

Their dedication and attention to customer service has clearly paid off.

A recent tripadvisor review said: "10/10. What can I say. This restaurant has been around for a very long time. Haweli has never let me down."

The CurryLife Awards take place each year to reward and recognise individuals who represent the very best of the British curry industry and have shown innovation and inspiration in their work.
