AN Ealing charity has hosted a four-day Easter holiday camp for children on free school meals.

The Znaniye Foundation was originally founded in Ealing in 2003 but has since grown and now covers all London boroughs.

Ealing Council's HAF programme – a government programme funding local authorities' enriched holiday activities and healthy food services – granted Znaniye the funding needed to set up the camp.

The camp took place last week, April 12-15, and included 30 children from across the borough.

The positive response Znaniye received from interested parents was overwhelming and all 30 spots filled up within the first day that applications were open.

Activities included arts and crafts, sports, indoor games, interactive and fun ways of doing Maths and English, along with learning how to prepare healthy food, and even gardening.

On Thursday, Ealing Central and Acton MP, Rupa Huq, along with Labour cllr Aysha Raza, from the Greenford Green ward, went to St Barnabas Church in Pitshanger and praised the charity for the amazing work that they did, while spending time with some of the children.

The Znaniye Foundation's Projects and Fundraising Coordinator, Patima Shareefy, told Nub News: "We're so pleased with the success the camp had.

"The children seemed genuinely so happy and very quickly came out of their shells and engaged with all the activities on offer.

"When you're with the children it's amazing, it's a different sort of energy and all of our volunteers – the majority of which are from Ealing – all loved helping out."
