The actor and director Meneka Das will be making her Ealing debut next month with the latest play at the areas much-loved independent theatre The Questors.

Meneka, who has had a number of professional acting credits including playing Jer Bulsara, Freddie Mercury's mum, in the Oscar winning film Bohemian Rhapsody, is the director of upcoming play 'Apologia'.

Along with Dexter Fletcher, director of Bohemian Rhapsody, Meneka has worked with the likes of David Yates and Mike Leigh as well as on stage at the Royal Shakespeare Company.

The play 'Apologia' was written by multi-award-winning playwright Alexi Kaye Campbell who's work includes; The Pride and Woman in Gold.

Meneka said: "Apologia is a play about family, failures and forgiveness. And it is these universal themes that gives this play its timelessness, and why it will continue to connect with audiences, which is a testament to the writing.

"I first knew Alexi (the playwright) when he was an actor - an amazing one, I know because I worked with him on the RSC production of Salman Rushdie's Midnight's Children, directed by Tim Supple.

"I always said to him that if I ever direct for theatre I would really want to direct Apologia and years later it has come to pass here at the Questors!"

Born in India, she moved to London to follow her dream of studying theatre and film saying that growing up both in India and London has deeply impacted and defined her journey as a storyteller.

She is also currently developing her second feature with the BFI.

Apologia was first staged at The Bush, followed by the West End, to rave reviews - with The Times referring to the production at Trafalgar Studios as, 'eviscerating and funny'.

Described as an 'unflinching, contemporary play', it invites the audience into the home of Kristin, a revered art historian and impassioned political activist of the 1960s.

But Kristin's effort to bring about a more humane society meant she neglected the two individuals who needed her love the most.

Now, on the day of her birthday, she is finally reunited with her two sons. And they want answers..

The play will be performed at The Questors Judi Dench Playhouse for five performances, from 1-5 February 2022, daily at 7.45pm.

To book tickets visit The Questors website or call the Box Office on 020 8567 5184 (open between 11am-1pm Monday-Friday and 6.30pm-8.30pm, Tuesday-Friday)

The theatre asks guests to wear a mask during the performances and they are holding a socially distanced production of the play on Wednesday, 2 February where you can book tickets in bubbles of one or two.
