A woman is appearing at a Magistrates court today charged with the murder of a five-year-old girl in Ealing.

Martina Madarova, of Leyborne Avenue, Ealing, will appear before Westminster Magistrates' Court today.

The 41-year-old woman was charged yesterday following a murder investigation into the death of the young child at a rented flat on Leybourne Avenue.

The young girl, Aijah Thomas, was found dead at the first floor flat on Leybourne Avenue on Tuesday.

Detectives investigating the death have charged the woman with murder, the Metropolitan Police said.

Neighbours were left in shock after police were called just before 1pm on 14 September when concerns were raised for the child's welfare.

Her next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.

A post-mortem examination has been scheduled for later today, the Metropolitan Police said in a statement.

The residential area is popular with families due to its close proximity to a number of parks and schools.
