A PETITION has been launched to replace trees that have been felled at Boston Manor Park and to make it 'better - and greener'.

The park recently received £5.1 million from the National Lottery Heritage Fund and National Lottery Community Fund to improve access, ecology and facilities at Boston Manor Park.

Hounslow Council began work some months ago but local residents say there has been 'limited initial consultation, poor communication and flawed management the park looks like it's been swept by a cyclone'.

According to the Save Our Trees campaign, more than 100 mature trees have been felled, hedgerows removed and wildlife habitats destroyed.

Campaigners say: "Local residents and visitors to the park alike have expressed their considerable upset and confusion over the damage done."

The petition, titled Lets Built it Back Better – and Greener, is calling for the council to:

  • Provide a 'before and after' audit of the trees removed - were more trees removed than were required or planned?
  • Restore some of the scrub areas and areas of wilding and especially the lost trees.
  • Provide a meaningful role for visitors and/or local residents in future decision making on the park and its facilities.
  • Improve communication with the park's visitors – e.g., keeping the council website up to date with decisions and plans, better signage in the park itself - What's happening? When? And who can people contact.
